The Winn Parish Clerk of Court’s Office is responsible for drawing names for jury pools for both Civil and Criminal Juries for the 8th Judicial District Court.

IF YOU HAVE BEEN SELECTED FOR JURY DUTY

If you receive a summons to serve as a juror, you would be a prospective juror — please follow these instructions:

  1. Read the summons. The address, date, and other pertinent information regarding your scheduled appearance are written on your summons. If you do not appear per the summons, you could be deemed in contempt of court, and face a penalty.

  2. Call the Judge’s office at 318-628-4596, on the Sunday before the Jury Term, or check this site to see if the jury has been cancelled, otherwise appear at the time on your summons.

  3. The Court day normally starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. Please be on time. The time you are released will depend on the court’s schedule. A lunch break will be taken as will many other breaks to allow jurors and court staff a rest.

  4. Jurors must dress appropriately, shorts, tank tops, or t-shirts with inappropriate slogans are not permissible.

JURY EXCUSES

  • You are not qualified to be a juror if:

    • You are not a citizen of the United States.

    • You have not resided in Winn Parish for one year prior to the date of your jury service.

    • You are not 18 years of age or older.

    • You cannot read, write, or speak the English language.

    • You are interdicted or incapable of serving because of a mental or physical infirmity, no person is deemed incompetent solely because of the loss of hearing in any degree.

    • You are under indictment, incarcerated under an order of imprisonment, or on probation or parole for a felony offense within the five-year period immediately preceding your jury service.

  • If you are over the age of 70 on the day of your jury summons, you may be excused due to an exemption, however you may serve if you wish. If you wish to exercise your exemption, please contact the Judge’s Office at 318-628-4596 or email Kelly Willis and let us know you wish to claim your exemption.

  • If you have served on a Grand Jury or a Jury in Winn Parish within the last two years, you may be excused due to an exemption, however you may serve if you wish. If you wish to exercise your exemption, please contact the Judge’s Office at 318-628-4596 or email Kelly Willis and let us know you wish to claim your exemption.

If you no longer reside in Winn Parish, you would need to speak with the Registrar of Voters, and if your name is removed from the voter roll, please forward that removal to Kelly Willis for her to excuse you from the jury venire.

Accommodations will be made for any hearing impaired prospective juror.

If you cannot report to jury duty for a medical reason, you must submit a current letter from your doctor stating the medical condition that prevents you from serving on a jury. Please send it to the Judge’s office by fax 866-521-0572 along with your current contact information or email Kelly Willis and verify they have your current contact information.
